The Hinjewadi Industries Association (HIA) is in talks with Nasscom and the State Government to oraganise an international tech event in Pune ensuring the participation of IT bigwigs. The event is being conceptualised as a platform to showcase the annual technology concepts of various companies and promote Pune as a global IT destination.
Mritunjay Singh, associate vice-president and head of the Pune centre of Infosys and president HIA,said, the association is already in talks to finalise the event. Unlike Bangalore,in Pune there is no such flagship technology event. Starting this November,we are planning to organise the event annually so that companies can showcase their technology. It will be a platform for sellers, users and all the stake holders to get together.
Singh said the involvement of the state government would ensure that the event get global attention. Pune is evolving as one of the major IT hubs not only in the country but of the world. With this event,we want to attract more investment from IT majors in the world. The participation of Nasscom and the state government would ensure success and it can be made an annual event , said Singh.
There are lot of young entrepreneurs who have innovative business ideas. We want to help such start-ups and one of the aims of the event is to identify such players and connect them with the private venture capital, said Singh.
Ganesh Natarajan, former Nasscom chief and CEO,Zensar Technologies, said,There is space for a tech event, which will consolidate Pune as a major IT hub. Pune made Rs 34,000 crore IT exports last year and to make it Rs 100,000 crore, initiatives like this would help. Also,Pune has achieved the fastest growth rate in the IT sector in nine years and to sustain it a platform where all the IT firms, entrepreneurs, students can come together is a welcome step.
The proposal of the international tech event was mooted in the meeting by the Hinjewadi Industries Association last Friday where various IT firms came together to discuss their challenges.
