Aabhusha,a newly-launched one-stop shop for dance accessories, offers everything from books to bells and costumes to curtains

Anyone who has practiced Bharatnatyam or Kathak or Odissi, would know how painstakingly each and every item of the jewellery and the costumes are put together. Only then does the dancer feel confident enough to face the audience and perform with her heart and soul. In the past, whenever Sai Paranjpe,a Bharatnatyam performer and teacher wanted to buy things such as dance costumes and temple jewellery, she had to depend on her outstation friends and contacts. “There was never anything available in town and that caused me a lot of inconvenience,” says Paranjpe. And that’s where the genesis of Aabhusha,a one-stop shop for dance accessories lies. “I thought why not have a shop where everything, right from bells to books and costumes to curtains was available. It was not just a great business opportunity waiting to be explored but also about making things easier for dancers and their families,” she adds.

So was born Aabhusha,a shop where dance accessories for Bharatnatyam,Kathak and other dance forms are available. “All accessories are available for sale as well as on rent here. In the price range of Rs 80 – Rs 10,000,there’s a whole assortment of items available, right from costumes, temple jewellery, back stage decorative items like bells, garlands and curtains to the complete costumes, jewellery and make-up for Arangetram, everything is available,” informs Paranjpe. Founder of the Nritya Bhakti Foundation, the danseuse says that more than dancers,it’s their families who are put to trouble,in search of the right costumes and accessories. “Parents have to run from pillar to post,to get the correct costumes and jewellery in place. With Aabhusha,I hope to make that a thing of the past,” she adds.
