Vedita Pratap Singh, who won the MTV Mega Model Hunt, steps into Bollywood
Shabbash – You Can Do It is a comic-thriller directed by Shankar Mandal. The film is about four youngsters and their life beyond college. My character is young, bubbly and vivacious. The first half of the film has comic undertones but towards the end,the plot completely changes.
I got my break pretty quick. I knew a model co-ordinator who was looking out for fresh faces. Through her,I managed to give an audition for the role. I got a call soon after.
I have done theatre with Kader Khans company and have also worked on his play Taash Ki Patti. I have walked the ramp for Vikram Phadnis at the MTV Lycra Style Awards 07. I got into modelling and shortly after that I won the MTV Mega Model Hunt and Channel V Indias Hottest. I havent done any acting course as I personally think my stint with theatre was good enough for me to start doing films.
My first shot in the film was a song sequence that was being shot in Nainital. I was very excited when I faced the camera for the first time. I had butterflies, but my director thought I was pretty confident.
I have absolutely no background in films,so it was difficult for me to gain a foothold in the industry. I live alone in Mumbai,so I have had to do everything on my own. Also when people know that a girl lives alone in Mumbai they try to take advantage of that.
The industry teaches you to be independent. You should never sit and brood about what has happened. Always look forward to a bright day,no matter what. If you want to succeed, you have to remain focused.
I have always idolised Amitabh Bachchan. I would love to do a film with Ranbir Kapoor because I have worked with him before in an ad film. I would love to do performance-oriented roles.
My short film Instantaneous is headed for a few prestigious international film festivals. Besides that,I have another two films in the pipeline but the producers are yet to make an announcement.
