Hockey: Punjab,Karnataka juggernauts roll on

Punjab,Delhi,Karnataka and Manipur kept up their winning run in their league engagements at the third Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championship.

Punjab,Delhi,Karnataka and Manipur kept up their winning run in their league engagements at the third Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championship. The championship is being played at the Shiv Chattrapati sports complex and Major Dhyan Chand Hockey stadium.

In Group A,Hockey Punjab scored their third consecutive win registering an 8-4 win over Association of Indian Universities. Deepak Thakur scored five goals while Vikramjit Singh recorded a brace. Ravi Pal added the eighth and final goal.

Delhi scored their second straight win in the same group thrashing Hockey Gujarat 11-1. Mohit scored a hattrick for the winners. Punjab will now take on Delhi in their last league match to decide the quarterfinalist from Group A.

Hockey Karnataka continued their strong showing in group C as they registered their second win in the group in as many matches accounting for Sports Authority of India 5-2.

In group E,Hockey Himachal Pradesh drew with Bengal Hockey Association 1-1,while in Group G Manipur Hockey thrashed Hockey Kerala 10 -3 to maintain a clean slate in the group with two wins. A.T Avinash scored a hattrick for Kerala but the attacker cut a frustrated figure as none of his teammates could put up a semblance of support.

In group G,Andhra Pradesh scored a 5-3 win over Hockey Uttarakhand to continue their winning streak. They are now tied with Hockey Manipur who also have won two matches so far.
