A history-sheeter opened fire on a police team in Awhalwadi area near Wagholi on Saturday evening. In retaliation, the police too fired at him, leaving him injured.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Somay Munde said the accused Omkar Dilip Bhandare, aged nearly 25 years, and a resident of Chandan Nagar, is a habitual offender.
Police said Omkar was wanted in a criminal case pertaining to illegal possession of weapons and assault, registered at Chandan Nagar police station.

Around 6 pm, the accused allegedly fired at the police party from a country-made pistol while hiding in the bushes. In self-defence, sub inspector Dhaware shot at his leg from his service revolver.
The bullet hit the accused, leaving him injured. He was then admitted to Sassoon hospital. Meanwhile, after receiving information about the incident, senior police officers from Pune city visited the spot.
No police personnel were injured in the incident. A separate case was lodged against the accused for firing on the police officials on duty.
