Hinjewadi,Chakan to get helipads in three months

In three months, the city is set to get two helipads to give faster access to industrialists who want to visit their projects or sites.

Eye on rapid economic growth

In three months, the city is set to get two helipads to give faster access to industrialists who want to visit their projects or sites. One helipad will come up in Chakan MIDC and the other is being planned at IT hub Hinjewadi.

“Both the helipads will come up in less than three months,” said K Shivaji,CEO of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC),which looks after the industrial development across the state. Shivaji said they were planning to set up as many as 12 helipads across the state. “The purpose is to give faster access to industrialists to reach their projects or sites of their choice,” he said.

Shivaji said setting up of helipads won’t cost them much as they plan to use the vacants plots for helipads. “The vacant land available in Chakan MIDC areas and Hinjewadi IT hubs will be converted into helipads. We won’t need to take up long surveys for finding the vacant plot,” he said. He,however, said the exact locations have not been selected. “I have directed the officials to locate appropriate sites and start the process soon,” he said.

Senior officials said industrialists would undoubtedly prefer the air travel. “Using air taxis is always a better option for high-flying corporates. Big investors would always prefer chopper service rathet than travel on bad roads in far flung areas.”

Welcoming the move,Anand Sardeshmukh, executive director general of MCCIA,said,“In Pune and Mumbai, there is frequent movement of senior executives and the helipads would certainly be a boost for their faster access to project sites.” He said in the past,a private company had taken the initiative to set up a helipad, but it failed to materalise. “In view of the rapid industrial growth, increase in basic infrastructure was necessary. Helipads are one such vital requirements,” he said, adding that the move would help in attracting investors in a big way.

MCCIA president Mukesh Malhotra said helipads would help industrialists to ensure early and efficient completion of projects as that would help them make it to their site fast.
