Highway oil spills: Govt move to curb mishaps

The Government is in the process of formulating a plan to curb accidents arising out of oil spilling from oil tankers on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The Government is in the process of formulating a plan to curb accidents arising out of oil spilling from oil tankers on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Replying to a query by Shiv Sena MLC Neelam Gorhe,MoS for Home Satej Patil said guidelines are being set by National Disaster Management Authority to handle such incidents which included inducting emergency vehicles and mechanism to alert vehicles in the vicinity of a spill.

“We will prepare an action plan for tackling such incidents after a meeting with NDMA,” said Patil,adding,“It is the responsibility of oil companies to maintain their vehicles.”

He added that government is also in the process of ensuring that emergency measures are in place to alert other vehicles on the way. Gorhe asked the government to take action against oil spillage incidents on the expressway,disrupting traffic on the way.
