Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol on Saturday urged students to be a source of information for police and help in prevention and speedy detection of crime and terror attacks.

As part of the event,a detailed presentation on terror acts and measures to prevent them was given by inspector Sunil Tambe of the anti-narcotics cell. The presentation also highlighted the importance of role played by media and people during terrorist attacks. The police chief was also flodded with questions on recent attacks on people from the Northeast states. “As the attacks started,we took immediate steps. We organised meetings with people from Northeast, leaders of various religious communities and local police to ease tension.”

While answering a question on cyber crime,Pol said that the rumours spread because of circulation of doctored and provocative SMSes and MMSes. “Our cyber crime cell is working hard to nail the persons behind circulating these messages.”

Replying to a question on inhibition of people to approach police,Pol said,“The misunderstanding about police among people is one of the main reasons for the divide.” He said students and educational institutes should help in bridging the gap.
