Legacy taken forward
After nurturing and fulfilling his dream of a state-of-the-art orthopaedic hospital,Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation (SIOR) founder chairman Padmashree Dr K H Sancheti has now handed over the chairmanship baton to his son Dr Parag Sancheti. Dr K H Sancheti says,”It has been an exceptional experience and an emotional journey so far. I now want to take a back seat and concentrate on my research work. I have full faith in the abilities of the younger generation and I am confident that Dr Parag Sancheti is the right person to carry forward the legacy of SIOR.” Dr Parag Sancheti,a well known name in the field of Orthopaedics is an excellent administrator and a renowned Joint Replacement and Orthopaedic Surgeon. After the completion of MBBS (1989) and MS Orthopaedics (1992) from BJ Medical College and Sassoon Hospital respectively,he joined Sancheti Hospital as an orthopaedic consultant,where he worked as a surgeon and handled the administrator’s post as well. In 2003,Dr. Parag was named the medical director of Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.
Lt Gen Sharma awarded
Lt Gen Shiv Kumar Sharma SM VSM Commandant,AFMC,has been awarded Sena Medal on Republic Day. Lt Gen Sharma VSM was recently appointed Commandant of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College,Pune,which is a premier medical institution of national eminence. He is also a recognized postgraduate teacher of Pune University. During his long and distinguished career he has held various prestigious appointments. These include officer-in-charge of Youngphula & HAA Hospitals in IMTRAT (Bhutan),Command of Indian Hospital under UN umbrella in Somalia,Command of a hospital located near the LOC in J&K Sector,Director AFMS Co-ord and Director MS (T&C) in the office of DGAFMS & DGMS (Army). He was selected as a member of the team that provided medical care to Indira Gandhi in 1972 & 1983. Lt Gen Shiv Kumar Sharma VSM has received several decorations for professional excellence including Vishist Seva Medal in 2005 and Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card in 1995.
