Guest lecturer disappears with answer sheets given for evaluation

The College of Agriculture,Pune,has lodged an offence against its guest faculty Laxmikant Deshmukh who allegedly took 85 answer sheets of first semester examination for Masters of Agriculture Business Management for evaluation but did not return them.

The College of Agriculture,Pune,has lodged an offence against its guest faculty Laxmikant Deshmukh who allegedly took 85 answer sheets of first semester examination for Masters of Agriculture Business Management (MBM) for evaluation but did not return them.

Now,the college is finding itself in a difficult situation as it is unable to declare the results of the first semester examination,in turn jeopardising the academic career of the students.

Pandurang Namdev Shendge (48),in-charge professor of the MBM course,had lodged the complaint in this connection with the Shivajinagar police station.

Police said Deshmukh,representative of United Crop Care Private Limited company and a resident of Harshal Park Apartment in Karve Nagar,was a hired as guest lecturer at the College of Agriculture,Pune.

The college paid him am honorarium of Rs 18,000 for delivering lectures to MBM students from October 18 to December 7,2011.

Police said the college asked Deshmukh to evaluate the answer sheets of the first semester examination of the MBM. He was told to collect 85 answer sheets on January 22,2012 and was supposed to check and return them by January 31. However,he collected the answer sheets on January 29 and never returned them.

Police said college authorities tried to contact Deshmukh on his phone,email and also at his work place and house. Letters were also dispatched to his native place in Aurangabad. But he could not be contacted.

Shendge said,“Usually the results of all the subjects of the first semester are declared by mid-January to February. Results for all other subjects were announced on time except the ABM due to this incident… We have lodged a police complaint and would convey this to the University authorities who will take a final call if a re-examination should be conducted in order to avoid the academic loss of the students.”

Assistant police inspector Mahendrakumar Sartape of Shivajinagar police station is investigating the case. Police have launched a search operation for tracing Deshmukh. His mobile phone numbers available with the police are not working,police said.
