In a surprise move, the state government on Wednesday evening appointed Dr Nitin Kareer, principal secretary of urban development department, as the chairman of the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL). Kunal Kumar, commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) who was the present chairman, has been now made a director of PSCDL.
Pune has been selected as one of the 10 cities in the state to be developed into smart cities under the Central government’s project.
PSCDCL was approved by the state government in March this year. As per its constitution, PSCDCL, Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the Smart City project, will be responsible for executing treaties between both domestic and international companies for the execution of the project and also keep a a tab on expenses.
It may be recalled that the PSCDCL had recently given its nod for 15 projects in Pune.
Kumar said he had no prior knowledge of this development.
