Girl who filed rape case against ex-MLA’s grandson attempts suicide in Pune

The girl has given a statement to the police at the hospital that she was being threatened by Gawade and some others after the case was registered.

Five days after Shivajinagar police filed a case of rape against 23-year-old Ajit Gawade, deputy sarpanch of Takli Haji village in Shirur and grandson of former MLA Popatrao Gawade, the complainant girl in the case has attempted suicide by taking sleeping pills.

The girl has given a statement to the police at the hospital that she was being threatened by Gawade and some others after the case was registered.

The 22-year-old girl, who works as a nursing assistant at a hospital in Pune, had approached the Shivajinagar police on March 10 saying Ajit Gawade had physical relations with her after making false promises of marriage. She also alleged he had made a video clip of her and threatened to circulate it. The two had met in college a few years ago, the police said.
