Geriatric care initiative launched in city

The programme will be rolled out in other metros over the next six months.

Ayushman Pvt. Ltd Wednesday launched healthcare programme for senior citizens,Dr. Geeta Sundar,Chief Medical Advisor and spokesperson for Ayushman said.

Sundar said nearly 7.5% of the population aged 60 years and above suffer from disorders such as diabetes,heart disease,bowel disorders,arthritis,Alzheimer’s and depression — all needing regular medical attention at home.

It is a geriatric programme delivered at the patients’ doorstep,through periodic visits by a family doctor and sample collection for routine pathology tests.

This ensures minimal requirement of commuting for receiving medical attention.

The entire programme is monitored by medical specialists of appropriate disciplines.

Central to the programme is the creation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) comprising examination details,prescriptions and reports.

Children living away from parents can sponsor,so they can get access to the EMR and be informed on the status of their parents,irrespective of their geographical location.

The programme will be launched available to Pune-based senior citizens from this month and will be rolled out in Chennai,Bangalore,Hyderabad,Mumbai,New Delhi and Chandigarh over the next 6 months.
