The police have arrested one person in connection with the murder of Kunal Pol (31),a land dealer and a member of notorious Gajanan Marne gang. The prime suspect Vishal Satpute alias Jangalya is still at large.
Pol,son of a retired assistant sub inspector,was murdered on the premises of a restaurant in Swargate area Wednesday around 11.20 pm.
Pol’s friend,Navnath Lodha,also the son of a policeman who was with him when the incident occurred had named nine persons in the complaint.
Investigation revealed that Jangalya and his aide Rohan Chavan had opened fire and there were 13 or 14 others who had come with them. They were in possession of sharp weapons,the police claimed.
Investigating officer Deepak Kadam said,“D Datta,one of the suspects in the case named by Lodha was nabbed by Khadak police station and was handed over to us. We have sent our teams to various locations in search of the suspects.”
The police had said that all the persons involved— those who attacked and those who were attacked — were part of a notorious Gajanan Marne gang and that the murder could have been an attempt to establish supremacy within the gang.
The police had also said that all these persons deal in land in and around Pune and have political backing at the local level.
Earlier,Pol and Jangalya shared friendly relations. However,the duo had recently fallen apart.
