Noted designer couple Falguni and Shane Peacock showcased their Summer-Spring’14 collection and also announced plans of opening a store in the city.

When it comes to summer and spring, designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock do not think of pretty girls running around in lavender and pink frocks. This year, while they were brainstorming for their Spring-Summer ’14 collection, they were inspired by futuristic themes for their collection titled “Futuristic Ride” at the finale of ABIL Pune Fashion Week on Sunday. “When we say futuristic,we mean creating a trend that will be contemporary even 20 years from now. The designs are inspired by galactic and baroque styles,” says Shane, adding that the look was styled with minimalistic make-up and dark lips to go with the futuristic theme.

The outfits are not meant to be worn every day, they are destined to be worn by divas,or in the least are guaranteed to make you feel like one. The collection transcends from floral accents on sheer,to dark metallic work on digital prints. “The prints are a mix of various abstract ideas. Each outfit is a piece of art,” he adds.

Moving beyond sheer backs and bodices, the duo uses sheer innovatively throughout the detailing of the fabric, including elements such as digital print underwear with sheer bodice to give the ensemble an interesting twist. As the metallic trend that the duo dauntlessly introduced on the ramps raised some questions about their comfort, they revealed that the clothes were made of a new material. “We used metallic sheets pasted on light weight fabric. This is a very comfortable material and can be effortlessly carried off by anyone,” says Falguni.

The line was also representative of their opinion that one does not need to wear revealing outfits to look fashionable. “Most of the pieces we have made have the models covered from neck to ankles. You need to have fun when you wear an outfit and that’s what makes you sexy,” says Falguni.

Staying true to their signature style of using materials such as leather and feathers, the duo used feathers as detailing on the hem of the dresses and broke away from the metallic monotony of their gowns.

The two had actor Neha Dhupia walk the ramp as the showstopper in a stunning metallic gown, detailed with feathers. The only accessory they styled her with was a pair of geeky yet chic oversized spectacles. “The dress is so comfortable,it weighs even less than a T-shirt. I was surprised that I was given the spectacles to wear instead of earrings, bangles or other conventional accessories. But who can expect conventional from Shane and Falguni,” says Dhupia. While she thinks that the spectacles add a serious look to her ensemble,Shane prefers to describe them as “kinky”.

After having styled international celebrities such as Fergie,Rihanna,Lady Gaga,Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears, they are now looking forward to working with Michelle Obama. “We have been wanting to work with her for a long time, and finally have the opportunity to do so. We want to give her a different look from what she always sports,” says Falguni.

Coming back to the city, the designers say the fashion scene in Pune is still at a nascent stage. “But it’s getting there and we are opening a store in Pune soon,” says Shane, refusing to divulge any more details.
