Four booked for ‘raping’ woman at Yerawada mental hospital

She was admitted into the hospital after her condition worsened in January 2013.

The Yerawada Police on Monday registered an offence against four persons in connection with the alleged rape of a 22-year-old woman when she was admitted to the Regional Mental Hospital,Yerawada.

The woman — an orphan from Nagpur — was living at a

rehabilitation centre in Osmanabad in Marathwada region of Maharashtra.

For the past six years,she was being treated there but when her condition worsened,she was admitted to the Yerawada hospital on January 5. She was sent back to rehabilitation centre on September 19.

The woman had accused four persons of sexual assault at the mental hospital. The Osmanabad police have registered a case of rape,but it was later transferred to the Yerawada police station.

Yerawada police officers have recorded the statements of some hospital employees. “The woman’s medical examination was conducted at Osmanabad and we are yet to get a report,” said an officer.
