Former bureaucrat and social activist Avinash Dharmadhikari who contested as an independent candidate in 1998 for the parliamentary elections has officially joined Shiv Sena on Friday. Dharmadhikari who went to the Sena Bhavan was received by executive president of Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray. He said that he would help in larger issues concerning the state.
On the occasion of Shiv Jayanti I decided to join Shiv Sena, he said. He said that he was in discussion with the party members for a month and he joined the party on Friday.
When asked why he thought of joining the Sena,he said that that he agreed to the partys stand.
It is likely that Dharmadhikari will contest the Assembly polls from Kothrud.
Dharmadhikari had been an activist before he joined IAS.
A freelance journalist,he has travelled extensively throughout the country to pen a book based on his experiences.
He later joined IAS in 1986 and has also held key positions which include additional collector in Pune and District collector of Raigad besides being the officer on special duty for the states chief secretary as well deputy secretary to the CM.
He resigned in 1996 to contest elections. In 1998,he contested as an independent candidate but lost. He had polled 34,1999 votes.
