A day after the Medical Council of India communicated to the Pune Municipal Corporation the cancellation of registration of acting civic health chief S T Pardeshi,Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Pathak on Tuesday suspended Pardeshi. Pathak handed over the charge to assistant medical officer Vaishali Jadhav.
The Medical Council of India has cancelled the registeration of Pardeshi. So,he has been placed under suspension till further orders. The charge of the civic health chief would now be with Vaishali Jadhav, said Pathak in his order.
The commissioner has further directed setting up a three-member committee, headed by Additional Municipal Commissioner,to look into the charges against Pardeshi and submit a report within the next three months.
Controversy surrounded Pardeshi ever since he took charge as the civic health chief. He has also faced opposition from within the health department. His appointment was challenged by other health officers and he was dragged to court for holding charge despite not being registered with the Medical Council of India. The Medical Council of India,on recommendations of the Medical Council of Maharashtra, cancelled his registration and communicated the same to the municipal commissioner.
Despite a prolonged pressure to remove Pardeshi from the responsibility,Pathak had retained him on grounds that he was registered with the MCI,even though he was no longer recognised by the Medical Council of Maharashtra.
Recently,Pardeshi was forced to cancel the registration of a private hospital on Karve Road after it was revealed that his department had given permission to the hospital in spite of having knowledge that its administration had failed to fulfil the necessary parameters.
Severak medical officers had been complaining about Pardeshi and corporators too have raised the issue of his poor performance.
