Pune Municipal Corporations (PMC) standing committee has approved the civic administrations proposal seeking the appointment of former railway engineer Shashikant Limaye as officer on special duty (OSD) for execution of the Metro rail project.
The objective of appointing an OSD was to have a dedicated person with expertise who could push for faster implementation of the project.
After the state government directives,the civic body had invited applications for the post. Four applicants had applied for the post,out of which one did not turn up and the one selected refused to take up the responsibility later. The selection of the other two was ruled out as one of them was 79 years old and the other did not qualify for the post.
Meanwhile,Limaye applied for the post. Limaye was selected as he had worked for Indian Railways and is a civil engineer. His appointment will be on contract basis for six months which will be extended later. The PMC will be paying him Rs 1.5 lakh per month, said Vishal Tambe,chairperson of standing committee.
The OSD will be responsible to carry out all the administrative procedure required to seek approval for the project from the state and Centre. He will also work to generate funds for the project.
