In a bid to check on industrial pollution,District Planning and Environment Committee is all set to conduct random checks on industries emptying effluents into rivers. The decision was taken at the committee meeting presided over by District Collector Vikas Deshmukh.
A four-point agenda was discussed which included checking on industrial waste,preserving medicinal plants and action against companies emptying effluents. The panel is gathering information on industrial pollution and will ready an agenda in three months. Once the data is collated,a study will be undertaken by a private agency,said officials. Data from all departments will be sort for readying the report,said the collector. Treatment of rivers in the civic limits was also discussed in the meeting.
Officials said the main reasons for pollution were treated and untreated domestic and industrial effluents,use of chemical fertilisers,absence of flow of water through the year,growth of water hyacinth,sand mining and bathing and washing along the river.
