Patil said the primary goal of Lok Adalat is to readdress quickly and cost-effectively the wide range of civil, criminal and compoundable cases, which reduces the burden on the formal judicial system.

She said 33 cases pending before the Supreme Court were settled during the previous Lok Adalats. Of these, a dispute under Kul Kayda Act, also known as the Maharashtra Tenancy and Agricultural Act, was pending in courts since 1968. It was settled during a special Lok Adalat of the Supreme Court, said Patil.

Meanwhile, as per details shared by DLSA, in the last two National Lok Adalats, as many as 26,05,603 disputes were settled.
