A 60-YEAR-OLD woman,who was brutally attacked by an unidentified person with stones and was robbed of her gold ornaments in Manjari on Tuesday,succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.
Hadapsar police have identified the victim as Harubai Narayan Ghule,a resident of Takalenagar in Manjari. Her son Digambar filed a complaint in the case.
The incident took place sometime between 10 am and noon on Tuesday.
Police sub-inspector Prasad Lonare,who is investigating the case,said,On Tuesday morning,a young boy aged between 12 and 15 years visited Ghule when she was alone at home. He told her that a cattle has entered their fields and was ruining the crops.
Lonare added,She went to the farm to see what was wrong. As she did not return for over an hour,her husband Narayan went to the farm. As he also did not return,their granddaughter visited the farm only to see her grandmother lying in a pool of blood and her grandfather sitting besides her in a state of shock. She raised an alarm and residents from nearby came to the spot.
Police said she was attacked with a stone and her hands were tied. The assailant had also put red chilli powder in her eyes,they added. She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning, said Lonare.
She was also robbed of her two gold chains and gold earrings,he added. Senior Inspector Raghunath Jadhav said their teams are working on clues collected from the spot.
