Eknath Khadse claims family being surveilled, says police attended his press conference in Pune

FORMER Maharashtra Minister Eknath Khadse, whose son-in-law is facing drugs related charges following a raid by Pune City police on Sunday, on Tuesday claimed his family was being surveilled stating that police personnel were present for his press conference held on Tuesday morning in Pune.

On Tuesday morning Khadse addressed a press conference at his daughter Rohini Khadse’s residence in the city. Sharing a video of some police personnel, Khadse said in an X post, “Today, I held a press conference at my daughter’s residence in Pune. Journalists brought to my attention that some unknown individuals had entered this press conference. When we questioned these people, they claimed to be police personnel. As many as 10-12 people? (Some names include Head Constable Deepak Kamble, Chandrakant Rejitwad, Police Inspector Vikram Gaur.) These individuals called some officer named Jagdale, who admitted that he had sent these people.”

Khadse further said in the post, “Who is this Jagdale? How do his people just enter my daughter’s house like this? Who gave them permission? What is their intent? Who is Jagdale’s boss? On whose orders were these people sent? We demand answers to these questions. My family is still being surveilled. Is someone planning yet another conspiracy against my family? This question troubles me. In my 35-40 years of legislative career, I have never seen such low-level politics.”

When contacted and asked about Khadse’s allegation, Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “It is a routine practice that our LIB (local intelligence branch) constables attend programmes or press conferences of political leaders. There is nothing wrong with it.”

In his press conference, Khadse slammed the Pune police accusing them of defaming his family by leaking private photos after arresting Khewalkar. When asked about Khadse’s allegations, Amitesh Kumar said during a media briefing, “Media has been briefed in detail earlier about the action taken by us. I want to assure the public that the action is being done in a transparent, legal and fair manner. There is no reason for anyone to have doubts on the police action. No photo or video of the raid has been leaked by the police. One must realise in this era of technology, people are free to take videos. Even at police stations, people can not be prohibited from taking videos. People are free to take videos and if it gets uploaded, how is the police responsible?”
