Educationa Diary: Mathematics Olympiad: Team India bags 2nd spot

A six-member Indian team secured two silver medals and three bronze medals at the 54th International Mathematics Olympiad held at Santa Marta in Columbia between July 18 and 28.

A six-member Indian team secured two silver medals and three bronze medals at the 54th International Mathematics Olympiad held at Santa Marta in Columbia between July 18 and 28. As many as 528 students from 97 countries participated in the event. The team was led by CR Pranesachar,TIFR,Bangalore,Aditi Phadke,Nowrosjee Wadia College and VV Acharya of Fergusson College. The Olympiad is held under National Board for Higher Mathematics,Department of Atomic Energy. Of the six students,Tappu Chaitanya from Modern Collge of Arts,Science and Commerce,and Anish Sevekari from Abasaheb Garware College were from Pune.

Six-month Marathi course at UoP

A six-month Marathi course will be launched at the Department of Marathi in University of Pune (UoP) from this academic year. Students can download the admission form from the university website. The classes for 20 seats will commence in the first week of September. The classes will be conducted for two hours two days a week.

Principals’ meet for e-Yantra initiative

IIT Bombay will hold a principals’ meet for e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative (eLSI) on Wednesday from 2 pm to 4 pm. The event will be held at MIT Academy of Engineering in Alandi. e-Yantra is a project supported by Ministry of Human Resource Development through the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) to spread embedded systems and robotics education in colleges across the country. It enables colleges to set up robotics labs and teach robotics and embedded systems in an effective manner. eLSI is a holistic approach to impart theoretical and programming knowledge to teachers through workshops,provide hands on training to teachers through regional e-Yantra Robotics Teacher Competition and help colleges set up their own robotics labs. The meet is open to all the engineering colleges in Pune.

Induction programme at SIOM

Sinhgad Institute of Management (SIOM) is organising ‘Induction Programme’ for its 20th batch of MBA students from July 29 to 31. “Providing orientation on course curriculum,personality development for enhancing employability options and industry expectations from MBA graduates is the major objective of the programme,” said Nilesh Gokhale,director,SIOM. Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF) has extended the date for issuing forms for postgraduate (PG) scholarships for girls. The last date for submission of forms is August 6. Former Chief Election Commissioner of India N Gopalaswami on Tuesday appealed to young bureaucrats to be transparent in their action while discharging duties.

Speaking at the 5th felicitation ceremony of the candidates who excelled in UPSC examination and other central government services,he said,“People watch you closely when you are performing your duty. Whenever you keep something confidential,the curiosity increases.
