In the midst of winter, the city is witnessing humid conditions leaving citizens with no option but switch on the fans even at night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed the rise in temperature to active easterlies in the western part of the state.

The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city are above normal by 1 and 4 degrees respectively. On Saturday while the city recorded maximum temperature at 30 degree Celsius, the minimum temperature was 15.1. This year the minimum temperature is around 15 degree Celsius for the most part of the season.

According to Medha Khole, director of weather section of IMD,Pune, the easterly waves are active in the western part, which are resulting in the rise in temperature.

“Due to this the conditions remain cloudy towards evening and night and thus there is large deviation in the minimum temperature,” she said. Though Khole said that there was no possibility of rains in the coming days, the conditions will be humid. “There is cold wave in Northern parts of the country, but as the Northerly winds are not active, except for the Northern parts of the state, there is no cold anywhere,” she said. Meanwhile, according to the data available with the IMD,Pune the lowest temperature in the city in January was recorded at 1.7 degree Celsius on January 17,1935.

It is also an all time record for the lowest temperature in the city.
