The building permission department of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, which has long been under fire for the mushrooming illegal constructions in the area, has now come up with a plan.

Instead of running from pillar to post for days on end,the residents can now get their plans approved by filing an application online and submitting the hard copies through a single window system.

Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma said the move is part of the e-governance system being implemented by his administration.

“We are trying to bring the system closer to the people and speed up the administrative work for public good,” he said.

Deputy city engineer Vasant Kachi said trial runs are on for the online submission of building permission applications.

“I can’t say when the system will get started, but it will be soon. In the last 15 days,we have received a few applications online. Once we are confident that the system is working properly,we will make the switch.”

However, the residents will have to continue submitting the hard copies of the 7×12 extract, property card, power of attorney, demarcation plan and DP opinion at the PCMC headquarters through the single window system at the Citizens Facilitation Centre.

PCMC IT officer Neelkanth Poman said the online system will be applicable to both ordinary citizens and the building community.

“Not only applications, the builders and citizens can also make the payment online.

This can be done through credit cards or electronic clearing system,” he said. The approval of the building will also be done online.

“Once a plan is approved, the residents will get the approval online. Which means they don’t have to keep making rounds of the PCMC headquarters,” said Poman.

The online system will save a lot of time for people seeking approval for their building plan.

“The system so far has taxed citizens a lot. They had to approach at least four departments. The mere submission of the papers took something like 15 days to one month. Now the submission process will take very little time,” Kachi said.

However,he said the permission procedure will take time. “We will have to verify and re-verify the documents. The whole process will take less than a month’s time before permission is granted,” he said.

Welcoming the step,Krushnakumar Goyal,a prominent builder, said seeking permission to building plan was a big pain.

“First you have to get the NOCs for various amenities before submitting the plan. This takes something like one-and-a-half months. The PCMC should bring in drastic changes to the system.”
