A girl riding a two-wheeler was injured in the incident. An offence was lodged against Nirban at Deccan police station. Samir Sadashiv Bene (34) of Kothrud lodged the FIR in this case.

Police have booked Nirban under sections 279 and 427 of IPC and other relevant sections of law. They said that Nirban is a first-year law student of ISBM in Pashan. He had come to FC Road with a friend. Despite the one-way traffic, Nirban drove his car towards the wrong side from Ranade Institute to Good Luck Chowk on FC Road.

The car collided against Bene, who was riding a two-wheeler. Bene, however, escaped unhurt. Nirban continued to drive the car on the wrong side of JM Road towards Bal Gandharva auditorium. The car hit two more vehicles. A two-wheeler hit by Nirban’s car collapsed causing injury to its female rider.

Meanwhile, locals chased the car and managed to nab Nirban on Apte Road. They handed him over to police at Balgandharva police chowki. His friend escaped from the spot. Locals claimed that Nirban was drunk. Police, however, said that a medical test would be conducted to confirm whether he had consumed alcohol.
