Their name evokes a sense of curiosity the moment one hears it. The five-member band Same Shit Different Day — decided on the name after all of them read the novel Dream Catcher by Stephen King. The book has a reference of this quote,’same shit everyday’. All of us relate to it in some way or the other. Same grind of work, same mundane urban life, says drummer Arjun Rajkishore. The bands members are design and media students from Symbiosis Institute of Design,Viman Nagar and none of them belong to the city. Rajkishore hails from Coimbatore, vocalist Shayan Roy is from Shillong, rhythm guitarist Souraj Bhattacharya is from Kolkata and lead guitarists Anurag Bhattacharya and Angad Berar are from Delhi.
We met in college. Souraj and Shayan had a band of their own,the rest of us gradually joined. We are a fast-paced rock band, says 20-year-old Rajkishore. Their sound is an amalgamation of influences ranging from Dire Straits to Jeff Buckley, blended with the individual music styles of each of the band members.
Next on their to-do list is trips to the recording studio for their upcoming EP that will be out in two weeks. With five songs inspired by a variety of situations and expressions, the band is eager to record. They uploaded their first original track You got a lot to learn on an online music portal called SoundCloud. Within a month the song had crossed the 1,500-listeners mark. We were encouraged to produce more originals and debut with an EP, says Rajkishore. The songs in the EP include Reckless, that expresses the emotions of a boy who suffers from bitter heartbreak,One,about a mother beating up her child, and more.
The band will be performing at High Spirits,Koregaon Park on Sunday,2 pm onwards
