A 24-year-old woman, who was beaten to to death in 2006 by her husband and in-laws,finally got justice when Additional Sessions Judge S M Jahagirdar today sentenced the three — her husband and parents in-law — to life imprisonment.

According to public prosecutor Sanjay Pawar, the deceased Suvarna Umakant Kathare married Sidhram Vijay Harde (28),a resident of Nanavati Nagar in Hadapsar,on December 11,2001 at Beed. At the time of marriage,Suvarna’s father-in-law Vijay Harde and mother-in-law Malappa Vijay Harde had demanded Rs 40,000 from Suvarna’s family. However,Suvarna’s family paid Rs 35,000.

Just a couple of days into the marriage, her husband and in-laws demanded her to get the remaining Rs 5,000. They began harassing her physically and mentally.
