Don’t forget your language,Kodiyeri tells Malayalees

Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who was in town recently,said diligence and integration were qualities of Malayalee people spread in all parts of the world. “But while living away,don’t forget your language,motherland,culture and rituals.”

Balakrishnan was speaking after inaugurating the two-day cultural event “Poona Malayalee Mahotsavam- 2010.” The event was organised on the 65th anniversary of the Pune Keraleeya Samaj. Present among others were Pune Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal and Suryodaya Sangha secretary Balan Tayatta,

Pune Malayalee Samaj president and Indian National Trade Union Congress leader Rajan Nair,P K Ravindran,Poona Malayalee Samaj president Madhu Nair and secretary O V Cherian were also present. The closing ceremony took place in presence of Ramesh Bagwe,who was MoS for Home in the Ashok Chavan Cabinet.

“Malayalees are ahead in all fields due to education and culture in Kerala. But addiction in the young generation is a cause for alarm. The Kerala Government has decided to strictly implement alcohol ban,” said Balakrishnan.

He added: “In a democracy you have full freedom to express your views but when you are running an institution you have to come together keeping differences away. Running an institution for 65 years is a good example. Terrorism doesn’t have any caste,religion and language; it has only one aim that is destruction. Kerala government has taken strict actions against terrorism. The situation has changed a lot in Kerala. Now,Keralites doesn’t have to move out since growth in business and Industry in Kerala.”

Rajan Nair said,“The railways cancelled the Pune to Ernakulam superfast train. Also,the government is neglecting our demand for Pune to Cochin flight. If this matter is not solved,then we will hold a rail roko.”

Madhu Nair made the introductory speech and Girish Bapat anchored the programme. K C Padmanabhan proposed the vote of thanks. A food festival was inaugurated by Joint Commissioner of Police Ashok Dhivare at Maha Sainik lawns. Kerala Kalamandalam Award winner Janardanan Kuttamath and assistants performed Kerala folk art,Ottan Thullal. It was followed by Sarga Keralam,a music,dance and drama event. Bagwe said,“Malayalee community has different identity. Due to their cooperation,we could win elections. The train from Pune to Ernakulam and direct flight from Pune to Cochin will start after talks with the higher authority.”

Singer G Venugopal and actor Jotsna gave a dazzling performance and comedy king Ramesh Pishrodi added colour with his mimicry.
