Three Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital doctors were booked for alleged negligence leading to the death of a four-year-old boy,Shivraj Salunke,on May 28.
His father Baban Shripati Salunke (45),a resident of Malshiras,lodged a complaint with the Kothrud police station.
Police booked doctors Sameer Melinkeri,Dr Varsha and Dr Kanvinde (their full names not available in police FIR) under Section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police said Shivraj was a blood cancer patient and was admitted to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital for cord blood treatment on May 3.
After the treatment,
Shivraj allegedly developed high temperature. His parents informed Dr Melinkeri,but she reportedly went on leave the next day. Shivrajs parents then approached associate doctors Varsha and Kanvinde,who allegedly ignored their pleas.
His parents filed a complaint claiming Shivraj died because of alleged negligence and ignorance of doctors.
Kothrud police registered a case on Friday. Senior inspector K D Vidhate said that as per government norms,details of the treatment given to the deceased have been submitted to a panel of medical experts. Further action will be taken depending on this report.
Dr Dhananjay Kelkar,director of the hospital,said he was not aware of the complaint. There is a procedure in such cases. The Sassoon Hospital committee will send us a report and we will look into the matter.
