To dispose of pending accident claims, the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal, Shivajinagar court, will hold periodic camps on its premises to issue disability certificates.
Court officials said a lot of accident claims are pending in the court as the existing process of procuring a disability certificate is long and arduous. The initiative is being undertaken with the support of District Legal Services Authority and Orthopedic Surgeons Association in the city. The first camp will be held on April 1.
Sessions judge S V Mane, who is also a member of the tribunal, said accident victims have to face a lot of trouble to get a disability certificates, which is mandatory to claim compensation.
“Doctors are reluctant to give certificates as they have to be present in a courtroom while hearing on the claim. In absence of certificates, many compensation claims remain pending before the MACT. We thought to conduct periodic camps to issue certificate on the court premise so that it is convenient for victims,” said Mane.
Mane said a panel of five orthopaedic experts will be present at Ashoka Hall in Shivajinagar court during the camps. “The claimants will have to produce their medical documents and they can get the certificate instantly, if they pass the test. No fee will be charged for the certificates,” said Mane.
