Dagdusheth terror alert: Man booked for giving wrong info

The city police have registered an offence against 25-year-old Imran Qureshi who wrongly informed them that a bag was planted at Dagdusheth Halwai Ganesh temple,following which Pune police machinery and intelligence agencies went into a flurry of activity on Saturday.

Qureshi was found drunk and lying in a pool of blood on railway tracks at Daund railway station on Saturday.

During interrogation,he told police that a man named Shoaib from Pakistan had offered him Rs 20,000 to plant a bag at Dagdusheth temple. He kept changing his statements when he was being questioned.

After he was brought to Pune for treatment,the information he gave had very specific details and was taken seriously by the police,anti-terrorism cell and intelligence agencies.

In the early hours of Saturday,the temple was converted into a fortress and police machinery was put into action to verify his claims.

Sanjiv Latkar,DIG,state anti-terrorism,said,“Qureshi told us in the evening that he had given us wrong information. An offence has been registered against him at Bundgarden police station.”

Qureshi is being treated at Sassoon Hospital for his head injury. He has been booked under Sections 182 (providing wrong information to public servant) and 505 (spreading enmity) of the Indian Penal Code .
