Dabholkar murder: cops in UP,Goa to collect clues

Three months after the murder of anti-superstition activist Dr Narendra Dabholkar,police officials said that some of the teams which are part of the probe are in Uttar Pradesh and Goa to collect “certain” clues and said they were confident that the case will be solved.

Two persons on a motorcycle had shot dead Dabholkar on the Omkareshwar bridge around 7.15 am on August 20. The police had released the sketches of the two suspects based on the description given by eyewitnesses. The probe is being carried out by 22 different teams from Pune police assisted by teams from Criminal Investigation Department and anti-terrorism squad of Maharashtra police.

ACP (Crime Branch) Rajendra Bhamre,investigating officer for the case,said on Tuesday,“Our teams have been to five different states till now. Some are stationed in Uttar Pradesh and Goa. We have received a lot of info from letters and phone calls and all of it has been verified. More info is still pouring in. We will crack the case.”

The police have questioned 635 criminals involved in offences of firearms,787 other criminals on police records and have done inquiry of over 1,018 other persons. Police teams have checked over 150 CCTV footages and have analysed huge data of phone calls.
