Harshal Gandre and Saurabh Mulik played key roles in one of the most closely-contested matches of the ABIL Inter Corporate Cricket Champions Cup before Cypress defeated KPIT by 8 runs in the Group A league match at Deccan Gymkhana.
Harshal Gandre shared two outstanding partnerships-141 runs for the first wicket and 53 runs for the second-as Cypress crossed the 200-run mark after electing to bat. Gandre remained unbeaten on 97 and was unlucky to have lost out on a century.
The first wicket stand between Gandre and Avdhoot Dandekar (60) came of in 91 balls that laid the foundation for Cypress. On Dandekars dismissal,Ranjit Pande (35) joined Gandre and put on 53 runs for the second wicket in 26 balls as Cypress scored 201 for two.
KPIT were spurred by Saurabh Mulik,who scored 87 runs in 49 balls with 10 fours and four sixes.
Two wickets fell early on,but Mulik along with Vinod Alat (52) almost took KPIT home.
In the second match of the day at Deccan Gymkhana,Sujanil defeated Tech Mahindra by 20 runs after posting 188 for seven in 20 overs. Sitar Bhandari (79),Yash Nahar (18) and Rohan Damles (36) helped Sujanil to a challenging total.
In reply,Tech Mahindra were given hopes by Sushant Modani (50) and Rohan Manekar (47) as they got together for the third wicket stand of 50 runs in just 30 balls,but lost wickets at regular intervals.
There was action at the Infosys Ground in Hinjewadi,where Infosys and Axis Bank completed their league encounter.
In yet another closely contested match,Infosys beat Axis Bank by four runs after putting 176 on the board. Hrishikesh Matsye (59) top-scored,but Anand Nalawades fighting 57 went in vain.
