The Central Reserved Police Forces (CRPF) Institute of IED Management in Talegaon has developed prototypes of the IEDs used in the terror strikes in the country and abroad.
The institute,established in 2012 with an aim to provide specialised training on the detection,identification,search and disposal of IEDs,has so far trained more than 1,000 personnel from various security agencies in India and abroad.
On Monday,Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde visited the institute and witnessed demonstrations of various models of the IEDs,many of which are replicas of those used in various terror strikes.
I wanted to visit the institute since long. There is no doubt that the institute is one of the best in IED management training and research, said Shinde.
Shinde announced that the institute will get funds from the
Centre. Principal of the Institute Commandant Jamal Khan,said,We have developed exact replicas of the IEDs used in Punes J M Road blast,German Bakery blast,Samjhauta Express blast,Delhi High Court blast and the replicas of IEDs used in Boston attack.
He added,As part of the training,we form different groups of the teams that visit us. One of the groups construct the IEDs and the other disposes it. We have also re-constructed the IEDs used in the Naxal-affected areas.
