A fresh first information report (FIR) was lodged against the three accused for allegedly attempting to kill the policemen by firing a bullet at them. A probe was also launched to determine where the accused had procured the illegal firearms from.
Cops arrested three persons from a car and seized two country made pistols and seven live cartridges from their possession on Thursday following an incident where the trio opened fire at Pimpri Chinchwad police personnel near Somatane toll post in the early hours of the day.
Police identified the three accused as Sunnysingh Papasingh Dudhani (24), Jalsingh Rajputsingh Dudhani (32), both residents of Hadapsar and Manish Babulal Kushwaha (28) of Morena in Madhya Pradesh. The three are criminals wanted in a prior theft case.
Acting on a tip-off to police havaldar Vikaram Kudal, a crime branch team from Pimpri Chinchwad police, led by senior inspector Arvind Pawar, laid a trap at Somatane Phata to nab the suspects wanted in a theft case lodged at Ravet police station. The suspects reached the spot around 5.30 am in a car that they had stolen from Hinjewadi area a few days ago.
Police intercepted the car, however, one of the suspects took out his pistol and fired a bullet at the police team. Police havaldar Bhausaheb Rathod, who was standing near the car at the time, tried to snatch the pistol from the suspect. Distracted by this, the suspect lost his aim and the bullet went on to hit the top of the car. Cops then nabbed the three suspects.
During a search, cops recovered two pistols, seven cartridges, some stolen gold and silver ornaments and sharp weapons from them. Police also seized the car used by the suspects.
A press release issued by the police stated that accused Sunnysingh Dudhani had been booked in about 70 offences, while his aide Jalsingh Dudhani is also on police record for committing 50 offences in the past.
