Police in Pune claimed to have cracked at least 47 cases of house break-ins with the arrest of three members of an inter-state gang.
The Crime Branch has also arrested owners of two jewellery shops,who had allegedly bought the stolen goods from them.
In the last week of March,police had arrested three suspected criminals,identified as Zubair Khan from Gujarat,Manoj Bhavsar and Rupesh Kachi,both from Pune.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Bansode said,During interrogation,the three suspected criminals confessed to their involvement in 47 cases of house break-ins across the city.
According to the DCP,11 of the 47 cases fall under the jurisdiction of Sangvi police station,while seven under Yerawada police station. The others fall under the jurisdictions of Bibwewadi,Market Yard,Swargate,Sahakarnagar,Shivajinagar,Vishrantwadi,Vimannagar,Lashkar,Bundgrden,Koregaon Park and Kothrud police stations.
Bansode added,The three have shown us the locations of the houses they had broken into and we have verified all the cases. The cash stolen in these cases has not yet been recovered. But almost all the gold,weighing about 720 grams worth 21.2 lakh,has been recovered. We have also arrested two jewellers who had allegedly bought the booty and melted it into bars.
Inspector Sunil Patil,who headed the investigation ,said the suspects used to break into houses both during day and night.
The suspects have been remanded in police custody till Monday.
