The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI),Pune Metro,on Wednesday said the real-estate body has taken a collective decision to prohibit usage of drinking water at construction sites owing to the water scarcity.
The CREDAI said its president Satish Magar had issued a circular from time to time to all members informing them of the water crisis. The circular had significantly emphasised on the impending scarcity of water in the city due to insufficient rainfall. It had also reiterated use of various techniques of saving water, Magar said.
He added that CREDAI Pune-Metro members had received a notification from the association in March,May and June stating poor rainfall in the city and the dropping levels of water storage in dams around the city. In response to the action,members from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad immediately discontinued usage of water at construction sites. The Credai Pune Metro said that the association has extended support for all steps undertaken by the PMC to save water and use it in the right way. The association members have also taken up a campaign called save water to increase awareness. The campaign will aim at generating awareness, he said.
Dr D K Abhyankar,director-general of CREDAI,Pune Metro,said that people associated with the construction industry have shifted focus of their construction activity and are currently carrying out works like plumbing and painting in which no water is required. He said the construction industry will get affected due to the decision but it would strictly abide by the directions as these are pressing times.
