Court to hear Baig’s plea against conviction next week

The Bombay High Court will commence the proceedings for the confirmation of death sentence handed out to the sole convict in the 2010 German Bakery blast case,Mirza Himayat Baig,as well as his appeal against conviction next week

The Bombay High Court will commence the proceedings for the confirmation of death sentence handed out to the sole convict in the 2010 German Bakery blast case,Mirza Himayat Baig,as well as his appeal against conviction next week. Baig was brought before the court on Thursday amid heavy security by the Quick Response Team.

On August 11,a division bench of Justices V K Tahilramani and Mridula Bhatkar will decide whether or not Baig will have to be brought to court to attend the proceedings or whether he can attend the proceedings through video-conferencing.

Prisoners on death row,such as Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab,who was convicted in the 26/11 terror attacks,and the trio of Hanif Syed Anees,Fehmida Syed and Ashrat Ansari,who were convicted in the 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar bomb blasts,have earlier attended the confirmation and appeal proceedings in High Court through video-conferencing.

As many as 17 people were killed in the explosion at the popular eatery in Koregaon Park on February 13,2010.
