Mediation centre awareness drive
A Mediation centre for effective alternative disposal of cases has been introduced in the Pune district family court. The centre helps in out-of-court settlement between the parties with trained mediators. To create awareness of the newly started mediation centre,Justice A M Khanvilkar from Bombay High Court will address the public at Ashoka Hall on the Shivajinagar court premises around 10.30 am on Sunday.

Nayana Pujari rape-murder case: charges to be framed on Thursday
Charges in the gang-rape and murder case of software engineer Nayana Pujari will be framed in the court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge Madan Joshi on Thursday. The date was fixed after special public prosecutor Harshad Nimbalkar submitted the draft charges to be framed against suspects Yogesh Raut,Mahesh Thakur and Vishal Kadam and approver Rajesh Chaudhary under sections 364 (kidnapping in order to murder),366 (kidnapping and inducing a woman to compel her into marriage,etc),394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery),397 (robbery with intent to cause death),376 (2) (g) (gang rape),302 (murder),404 (dishonest misappropriation of property possessed by deceased person at the time of death),201 (causing disappearance of evidence),120 (b) (conspiracy) read with 34 (act committed by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Lawyers oppose morning-evening courts at conference
In the state-level lawyers’ conference held at Nashik from January 22 and 23,around 2,000 lawyers from the state,including 300 from Pune,passed a resolution to oppose the morning and evening courts being introduced by the Bombay High Court. The morning court is held from 9 am-11am,while the evening court is between 6pm and 8pm and have been introduced to reduce the pendency of cases in subordinate courts. Lawyers opposed the scheme saying that the timings are not suitable for them.

Joint district judge Kulkarni promoted as Ahmednagar principal district judge
Joint district judge J D Kulkarni has been promoted as principal district judge,Ahmednagar. He was the special judge in Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) – Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases.
