Man gets 1-year RI for possessing arms
Pune:A magistrate court recently sentenced Bapu Prabhakar Nair (30) from Bibvewadi to 1-year rigorous imprisonment for illegal possession of firearms and cartridges in 2004. A fine of Rs 3,000 was also imposed on him. Nair,a criminal on police record,was also sentenced to six-month RI for violating Pune polices order of not carrying dangerous weapons. JMFC Kailash Chafale observed that Nairs act was dangerous for the society.
2 alleged Naxalites granted bail
Pune:The Bombay HC recently granted bail to two suspected Naxalites arrested by the state ATS last year from Pirangut. Justice Abhay Thipsay granted bail to Sushama Ramteke (28),and Jyoti Chorge (20) against a personal bond of Rs 30,000 each and one or two sureties of the same amount on the condition that Chorge attend Dhankawdi police station and Ramteke Ajani police station in Nagpur city every Sunday. The ATS had arrested them,along with four others,in April.
Criminals bail rejected
Pune:Additional sessions judge S D Darne recently rejected the bail plea of Prakash alias Haribhau Londhe from Loni Kalbhor for not attending a hearing in theft case filed against him. In 2006,a magisterial court here had sentenced Londhe to three-year rigorous imprisonment. A fine of Rs 5,000 was also imposed upon him. Londhe had appealed against his conviction. He skipped the hearing on July 24,after which a non-bailable warrant was issued against him on August 10,but he again failed to turn up. The police then arrested him from Loni Kalbhor on Wednesday,after which his lawyer filed bail application on Thursday. Additional public prosecutor Ujjwala Pawar requested to reject the plea since Londhe had 51 cases registered against him.
