Raising the pitch over the Jalgaon sand mafia issue, which allegedly led to the suicide of Police Inspector Ashok Sadre, the Aam Aadmi Paty (AAP) on Wednesday attacked State Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse for “defending” Sagar Chaudhari, allegedly involved in sand mafia, who is at the helm of the controversy.
AAP leader Preeti Sharma Menon met state CID chief Sanjay Kumar and demanded that Chaudhari be immediately arrested and that Superintendent of Police Jalgaon Jalindar Supekar and other officials, named by Sadre in his suicide note, be suspended post inquiry.
“The prime accused in the case is Chaudhari who has political links. Due to this, the probe has not yet started and SSP Supekar, whose name is also mentioned in Sadre’s suicide note, is continuing in office. We demand a fair probe and only the central agency can do a proper investigation,” Menon said.

On October 16, Sadre had committed suicide at his residence in Nashik, blaming his senior officers of harassing him for acting against the sand mafia in the Jalgaon district.
He stated in his note that since he was acting against Chaudhari, who had denied these allegations, Chaudhari, along with Supekar and another top official, falsely implicated him in a false extortion case. He alleged that without even conducting a prima facie inquiry he was suspended by Supekar.
Sharma said, “Sadre was the whistleblower and they suspended him. While as per the police department rule, he should have been given 50 per cent of his salary during the suspension period, which was withheld, leading to his suicide.”
On the state revenue minister’s alleged involvement, Sharma said, “Khadse who hails from Jalgaon, first said he didn’t know Chaudhari but when the CID inquiry was ordered, he said he knew Chaudhari and ‘defended’ him to be only a sand contractor, not involved in any mafia. By defending those suspected to , he has lost the moral ground to remain a minister and should immediately resign.”
