In view of the prevailing drought,District Collector Vikas Deskmukh has written to tehshildars and block development officers (BDOs) to keep a close watch on Holi revelries in the district.
Deshmukh said that if cases of misuse of water are reported, local government bodies will take action at their level. The collector had earlier issued orders banning rain dance.
We cannot stop anybody from organising parties. However,I have issued strict orders stating that no permission should be given to those planning rain dance parties, said Deshmukh. Various revenue officers at the district level will take up the responsibility to implement the order,he added. When asked if special squads would be formed to keep a watch on various activities,Deshmukh replied in negative.
Meanwhile,in a meeting on Renovation Repair Rejuvenation (RRR) of percolation tanks and other water sources,Deshmukh sanctioned Rs 10 crore to repair small check dams. As many as 146 proposals of the Pune Zilla Parishad on rejuvenation of percolation tanks were sent back owing to discrepancies, said Deshmukh.
