A survey carried out by Delhi-based Global Human Resource Development Center (GHRDC),which inspected some of the top engineering colleges across the country,has ranked the College of Engineering,Pune (CoEP) the ninth best. CoEP is the only college from the city to have made it to the 15 top colleges of Super Excellence across the country and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI),Mumbai,is the only other institute from the state to have made it to the list at 13th position.
The survey gives IIT,Kharagpur the 1st rank among the Top Torch Bearer Engineering Colleges of India.
The GHRDC,which carries out the survey annually,sends its results to the HRD Ministry. MP Sinha,executive director,GHRDC,said,We have been carrying out surveys for assessing quality of education imparted at institutes across the country since 2006. The findings of the surveys are sent to the HRD Ministry so that they can take note of the performance by the institutes. Apart from assessing engineering colleges,the GHRDC also assesses hotel management institutes,institutes of mass communication and business schools.
The institutes have been assessed on the basis of infrastructure,admission,placements,faculty,research,consultancy and other programmes and the output. The institutes to have been named as top engineering colleges according to the survey are the Indian Institute of Technology,(IIT) Kharagpur and Roorkee.
Speaking about the survey,Sandeep Meshram,training and placement officer,CoEP,said,We have been participating in the survey for the past three years. This year,our ranks have improved significantly. The institutes are ranked according to performance over the years and we met most of the parameters set by them. Of a total score
of 1,700,we were able to score 1,108,scoring very well in admission and competency building as well as infrastructure.
That pulled our rank up significantly.
