The concept of ‘End of Season Sale’ is becoming popular with a number of online shopping portals

Neha Visani is overwhelmed with joy as she shows off her brand new pink Puma sports shoes that she effortlessly bagged at one third of its original price while sitting at home. “Who doesn’t love sales? But I don’t like the pandemonium that happens at the shops,when they announce their end of season sale. It’s like a race and all the good stuff is gone even before you can reach your favourite section,” explains 18-year-old Visani. She not only saved herself from the hassle of visiting the shop but also managed to get a smart price by shopping on www.jabong.com ,an online portal that declared an ‘End of Season Sales’ a few weeks back.

A regular feature in stores ,the ‘end-of-season sale’,a smart marketing gimmick has spread to online shopping portals too. Websites like eBay,Jabong,Zovi,Myntra,Zimave have jumped onto the clearance sale bandwagon to attract customers with unbelievable discounts on products ranging from clothes,watches,accessories,lingerie,shoes,jewellery and more.

“Websites can get their stock in two ways. Either take a consignment from a brand at wholesale prices,which are sold online at nominal discount. The portals give back the unsold stock to the company in exchange for newer stock,” explains Udayan Bubna,director,Tech Fury,experts in technology services and technology supports for websites. The second way,he adds,is that online portals buy a whole lot of stock from the brands at prices lower than the consignment,which they cannot return in exchange for new stock. “So,in order to clear up the old stock,they offer heavy discounts,which is a boon for the online shopaholics,” says Bubna.

Ashutosh Lawania,co-founder,head of sales and marketing,Myntra.com says that going by fashion seasons–Spring-Summer and Autumn-Winter– portals need to change its stock . “We are clearing our Spring-Summer stock through the end-of-season sale that will go on till mid-August,” he adds.

Even Flipkart is offering heavy discounts on bags,watches,belts,wallets and perfumes as a part of their end of season sale,which will be on till the end of this month.

Another portal,www.zovi.com has combined their end of season sale with their first anniversary celebrations. “It is not just about clearing the warehouse for fresh stock but also about reaching out to a larger customer base as well as delight our loyal customers. By the end of the year ,we expect online shopping industry to pick up friction at a higher level which will boost our growth as an online shopping portal,” says Kavindra Mishra,Co-Founder and VP Sales,Zovi.com,which will be having their sale till August 4.
