Following the Mantralaya fire,PMC commissioner Mahesh Phatak along with mayor Vaishali Bankar addressed a joint press meet to assess the disaster management system in the PMC building.
PMC commissioner Phatak has directed that mock drills were needed at schools and PMC headquarters. He stressed making PMC staircases free of any obstructions and also called for fire engines to be permanently stationed outside the PMC building.
Phatak said a disaster management cell should be stationed on the fifth floor of the PMC and all electrical fittings,fire extinguishing equipment and main power switch should be regularly checked.
He also urged all buildings,which need fire extinguishing equipment,to go for a fire audit.
He said he will see to it that all A type documents which were sent to the key departments of revenue,urban development department and education were scanned.
He also said all PMC offices,waste depots,toilets and vehicle depots will be provided with borewell facility. Phatak also directed the health department to introduce a pest control department.
Rs 8-lakh worth charas seized
The anti-narcotics cell of Pune police arrested a man and a woman for possessing 4.5 kgs charas worth Rs 8 lakh on Friday.The suspects have been identified as Shivnath Sukha Saha (34) and Devanti Shivaji Saha (32),both natives of Motihari district in Bihar.
The duo were arrested from the station at 2.45 pm. Police suspect that they wanted to sell charas to drug racketeers in the city. Investigation revealed that the duo got charas from Nepal. It is being probed whether the duo have any links with international drug trafficking racket or terror groups.
