Rajendra Maruti Gaikwad of Siddharth Nagar,Dapodi,died of swine flu on Monday. He is the 11th person to succumb to the virus. Dr Milind Jawale,PCMC medical officer,said Gaikwad was admitted to D Y Patil Hospital on March 28 with acute gastroentritis and breathlessness. Jawale said he was administered Tamiflu medication and tested positive for the H1N1 virus on Monday. Meanwhile,in PMC area,eight new H1N1 cases were detected. Two patients are on ventilator support at KEM and Jehangir Hospitals,said PMC health chief Dr S T Pardeshi. ENS

The minimum temperature on Monday saw a record increase in the past 30 years. While the minimum expected temperature on April 2 was 18°C,Monday’s minimum was 20°C. Though partly cloudy sky was observed in Pune,officials from India Meteorological Department (IMD),Pune,have ruled out chances of rain in the next 24 hours. “We recorded 2mm of rain in the Satara district,but no such weather conditions have developed in Pune yet. In fact,the temperature has been two degrees above normal compared to the data for the last 30 years,” said an official from IMD,Pune. The maximum temperature recorded in Pune on Monday was 38.8°C. For Tuesday,the expected maximum as per the forecast is 39°C and the minimum is 21°C.
