The city unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will be for the first time be headed by a woman. The party on Friday announced the appointment of former Mayor Vandana Chavan as its president for Pune city.
Chavan will replace Jaideo Gaikwad as the city unit NCP chief. The appointment of Chavan was made by the state unit of the NCP, said NCP spokesperson Ankush Kakade.
He said the state has not taken any decision on the position of the executive president of the NCP. The city NCP unit earlier had a party president and executive president to accommodate two leaders of different communities.
Chavan quit the Congress to join the NCP in 2007 and was among the probable party candidates for the 2009 assembly polls from Parvati constituency.
