Mohali: Two persons were injured on Monday when a speeding bus hit a car near Verka Chowk. One person traveling in the car was injured while three others had a miraculous escape. The speeding bus also hit a motorcycle. Gulshan Kumar,the motorcycle rider and Kiranjeet Singh,the driver of the car have been admitted to Government Hospital in Sector 16,Chandigarh. A case under relevant IPC Sections have been registered. Police said,the driver of the car Kiranjeet Singh,was allegedly drunk when the accident took place.

Patiala varsity professor honoured
Chandigarh: Prof T C Narendran Trust for Animal Taxonomy has conferred Dr Himender Bharti,Department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences of Punjabi University,Patiala,with the Distinguished Taxonomist Award 2012 for his contribution to the diversity of ants. Dr Bharti has been working on ant systematics for the past fifteen years and his research work has throughout been funded by many national agencies in the form of projects.
Lecture on nano technology held at GGSCMT
Mohali: A guest lecture on Nano Technology and its application in Engineering was organised at GGS College of Modern Technology (GGSCMT),Kharar. Narinder Singh,Co-ordinator and HOD Chemistry Department at IIT Ropar,was the key-note speaker. Singh gave a brief introduction on Synthesis of Quantum Dots,Dye sensitized solar cells performance,concept of Tribology,among other topics.
PU prof selected under UGC programme
Chandigarh: Director,Computer Centre,Panjab University (PU),Dr Tankeshwar Kumar has become the first Professor from the varsity to be selected by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Faculty Recharge Programme.The programme was initiatied by the Ministry of Human Resource development in association with UGC during the 11th five-year plan.
SBI donates vehicle to NGO for children
Chandigarh: As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility,Lingaraj Mahapatra,chief general manager of State Bank of India,Chandigarh Circle,donated a school cab to SOS Childrens Village Association (Bal Niketan),Sector -2 in Panchkula. Mahapatra handed over the keys to the president of the NGO at the SBI Local Head Office in Chandigarh.
